Easy Shepherd's Pie

Easy Shepherd's Pie

there are many days when i lunch alone and all i want is something easy, fuss free (yet delicious). i've been dreaming of a shepherd's pie ever since i had it at muddy murphy's irish pub a long time ago but yet i've never really gotten around it. if there's an award for the biggest procrastinator in the world, guess it would have 2b me. i just hv the habit of putting off things to the very last minute, or when i feel like it. not sure if i ever mentioned that i can leave cream cheese or butter out at room temp coz i feel like baking something but put it back in the end coz i just didn't feel like baking anymore LOL.

Privé Bakery & Cafe @ Keppel Bay

Marina @ Keppel Bay

this entry has actually "cut queue" among all my other unposted restaurant reviews coz i can't wait to blog about it!! i'm too excited for words! last weekend i finally had the chance to visit marina at keppel bay on keppel island. its a waterfront precinct with condominiums (caribbean @ keppel bay), sailing facilities, berths to hold yachts as well as some restaurants.

Caramel Fleur de Sel

Collage

i love caramels but i love salted caramels even more! i've been DYING to make these, but hv been putting it off since i didn't hv fleur de sel (flower of salt). been looking around for the best - preferably one from the guérande region in france but i couldn't find. not even the le saunier de camargue's :( ended up i settled for the slovenia produced one which is actually not cheap too. $15 for a 125g jar which i bought from fairprice finest last weekend.

My Obssession With Gourmet Chocs

My Obssession With Gourmet Chocs

Michel Cluizel Chocolat Noir

not sure when it started but my chocolate dictionary has gone beyond the cadbury, van houten & hersheys. right now, its all about valrhona, amedei & michel cluizel. i first started out with valrhona & ghirardelli baking chocolates and soon after, i ventured into the gourmet ones for eating, sold in bars. the above is the michel cluizel chocolat noir which i got it from culina @ $10 a 100g bar.

Valrhona

of coz, when it comes to appreciating fine chocs, i'm no connoisseur and is still very far from being one. i just know how to eat! my friend sihan, on the other hand, is the one who's really good at it. she knows all the single estates chocs (like wine) at the back of her hand and can detect floral or fruity notes in them! the two above bars - the valrhona manjari orange & 72% araguani were given to me by her. what a sweet gesture and i totally appreciate it! i especially love the manjari orange coz i'm a sucker for the chocolate & orange combination. while chocolate & banana is a combination that you can't go wrong with, i think the choc/orange one is much better! the 72% araguani is also another of my favorite coz of its unsurpassed aroma & the smoothness that glides down my throat. despite it being a 72% choc, it's not at all bitter nor acidic.

Chocolates

and so, she brought me to xotiq chocolatier located @ shaw tower where it's the 1st chocolate shop that specialises in single estate chocs. and how could i leave empty handed? obviously not. i bought a gift box that contained an assortment of michel cluizel, amedei & valrhona chocolates, all 36 pcs in total. one of the them was the amedei toscano black 70% used in the ice-cream in seventh heaven, but i failed to appreciate that. on the contrary, what caught my eye (and tastebuds) was the michel cluizel 47% lait milk choc. it was simply not like any other milk chocs i've tried and it just blew my socks away the moment i tasted it. most milk chocs were cloying sweet but not the 47% lait.

Michel Cluizel

i also bought the chocolat noir au grue de cacao which is a dark choc with cocoa nibs. i haven't eaten that so i'm not sure how it taste like. i'm thinking it must be good too since i LURVE cocoa nibs! right now, i feel compelled to run back to the shop to buy another stash of the manjari orange, araguani, 47% lait & amedei porcelana (the world's most expensive choc whereby every bar has its own unique serial no.) doesnt it remind u of a branded bag or something?

Aerin's + New Asia Bar

Aerin's

i've passed by aerin's all too many times but not once went in there. from outside, the place looked too classy as compared to the others around the basement of raffles city like soup spoon & out of the pan. having seen some bloggers talk abt this place as well as the chicken & dumpling recipe posted by their head chef on last month's food & travel mag, i decided to check out what they hv to offer. and boy, i wasn't disappointed at all! their food is decent and the desserts quite good. aerin's definitely warrants a 2nd visit (which is all too rare that i actually do wanna go back to a place for the 2nd time).
