High Tea Buffet @ The Equinox

High Tea Buffet @ The Equinox

first of all pls allow me share my joy. i finally got myself a KitchenAid! this is not a luxury but a necessity item. ok maybe just a little luxurious since i was deciding between a kenwood patissier mixer & this. as u probably know, i bake alot of macarons and my recent large order almost drove me crazy. previously i was using a handheld mixer and it takes forever to whisk 2 egg whites or more. thats also the reason why i've put off baking chiffon & angel food cakes for so long. now, the time has finally come :p so yes, i'm looking forward to more bigger orders and baking in larger quantities!

ok back to the topic. recently i met up with a fellow food blogger - daphne. she's based in perth and its only once in a blue moon she comes home so i treasure the meetup even more =) she's getting married nx year and i'm invited to her bridal shower, how cool is that? im looking forward daph hehe! and so we went for high tea @ the equinox, swisshotel stamford. can't help feeling taitai-ish about the whole thing heh. the last time i went for high tea was eons ago, think it was 2004 or something for the christmas buffet lunch in goodwood park hotel. and of coz i wasnt disappointed. partly becoz i've lost touch with high teas for so long and didn't really know what to expect these days so i went with zero expectation and was pretty happy with the spread. probably nothing to shout about but it was really something for me. the food was quite good overall, with enough finger food varieties like dim sum (siew mai, charsiew bao, har kow), banana fritters, potato prawn fritters, sausages, pandan wrapped chicken, sandwiches, sushi/maki, salad, pasta station, laksa, scones, porridge, curry, pizza, green bean soup and a nice selection of shot glass desserts, waffles, millefeuille, ice cream with LOTSA toppings to choose from, strawberries/marshmallows/oreo-on-sticks for the fondue, 3 types of chocolate dips (dark, milk & white) for the fondue, juices & coffee and tea. i'm quite a small eater and only tried a little bit of everything before calling it quits :p but overall i enjoyed most of the food, and the bad were that the curry tasted quite weird and the chocolate dip for the fondue was too oily. and i must mention that the time is pretty short too for weekdays high tea from 3.30-5pm only. so basically i was there snapping away instead of savoring the food. heh. when i posted the pics in flickr some overseas flickr members actually expressed interest to go for the high tea and asked me where equinox is LOL. will let the pics do the talking :

sausages, pandan wrapped chicken, banana fritters, quiches, fried chicken, potato shrimp, wantons etc.

cocktail sausages

bamboo steamers with charsiew bao, spinach dumplings & siew mai in there.

charsiew bao

steamed chinese cakes

porridge n the works

maki, sushi, chawanmushi & soba at the sushi station

various types of sandwiches

bread station

lemon-scented fruit salad. i love this!

fruit station

candied ginger, marshmallows & oreo on sticks for fondue

strawberries on sticks

marshmallows on sticks

mixed fruit millefeuille

waffles

one of the shot glass desserts - lychee gelee & rose mousse with a raspberry inside. very ispahan-ish, i like!

another of the shot glass dessert. couldnt make out the flavor. i'd say its a cross between lime, pear & green apple, then again i could be wrong.

chocolate cake. taste like flourless one!

toppings for ice cream. the furthest one looks like valrhona crunchy choc pearls!

when i rang up the reservations, they told me there's gonna be macarons. is this what they mean - broken pieces of meringue cookies and call them macarons??

attempting an artistic shot on the strawberry fondue

caramel raspberry tart or dulce de leche tart of some sort. too sweet for my (and daph's) liking

i like their coffee. despite the fact i was reallyyy full, i had like 3 cups? hehe.
